Today I tried to use automatic tool nose radius compensation (G41/G42) on a Puma 300 M lathe with Fanuc 32i control. A simple test program (Face + OD turning) by an OD turning tool like:

(Rn 1.2, tip 3, in Offset/Geometry table)

T0101 S300 M04
G42 G0 X-3 Z3
G1 Z0 F0.1
X10
X15 Z-5
Z-20
G40 X20 Z10
M30

I tried to trace coordinates during running of the program. No difference for displayed coordinates between ATNRC or NOT ATNRC. I'm not speaking about turned part, just displayed coordinates. Is it normal? No way to watch actual compensated coordinates?

Running along the X or Z coordinates, you will not see a difference. It will likely only show up in XZ moves. You may be able to see it at the points where it transitions from X to XZ to Z. This being said, the difference will be so small and the numbers will change so rapidly, there is little hope of being able to see it just by watching the position readout.

Is there a practical/operational need or just curiosity? I have never looked into this so not certain what options there may be to display comped positions. There are parameters for changing how the data displayed. Might be worth your time to have a read through them.

You mean only in 3 points (2 points of tapered line, 1 point of the end Z-20), just for a fraction of second, the compensated coordinates are shown?

If I reset the program in the middle of the tapered line (Control parameters are set such a way that it still shows T0101 coordinates even by reset button), monitor shows different values (I guess actual compensated coordinates).

Curiosity, to check how the tool tip is moving exactly. I'm newbie, so I need to check every my steps carefully.

I had tried the single block but I didn't see any compensated values. I'll try once again with more attention.

If anybody shares the appropriate parameters for compensated values, I'll be much appreciated.

for a .032" tool nose radius, you would only see about .004" (.11mm) difference in your X and Z values on a 45deg. taper. If you really want to be able to see it clearly, increase your tool nose radius to something huge, like 1.0" or 25mm. I would recommend cutting air for this exercise.
