I bought a hi lift a few years ago thinking it'd be the coolest universal tool. Maybe I'm using it wrong or something but that damn thing has nearly killed me a few times. It's fine for pushing things apart or pulling things together but it's absolutely useless for jacking up a vehicle.
I find that knowing exactly what to search for is the most frustrating part. You can be so close but if you're not using the proper search phrase, you almost have to stumble upon the answer.
I have not. I will now though, it sounds interesting, thank you.
Exactly! When I tell them "one pass cut" they look at me like I'm crazy. "Are you sure? That finish is pretty rough, like 600 grit sand paper." It's like I'm asking them to cook with a $500 bottle of wine or something 😆...
I make my own products, most of them are assemblies of small parts that would fit in your hand. I could benefit greatly from the accuracy and small cut radius of a wire edm.
I currently have to design around my manufacturing limitations. Everything needs to be milled, turned or laser cut. I try...
This is all very good to know, thanks guys - not what I was hoping to hear, but good to know none the less.
I guess the important question is; how much out of pocket cash would someone need to put down in order to have an operational wire edm? $30k? $50k?
Some financing would be acceptable to...
This is very similar to what I'm trying to do. My Uncle did all of the quoting and such for the wire machines at a local mold shop and he spent years working with them before that. The shop was sold to a big corporation who ran it into the ground and my uncle retired... 3-4 years ago if I...
Is it worth it?
Plenty of guys buy 30 year old lathes and mills. I don't see any threads around the interwebs of people showing off the killer deal they found on a 93' Mitsubishi wire machine though.
I really want to get into wire work and I see used machines at HGR all of the time. I just...
Eh, don't do that. I hate when vendors do that to me. Tell them that it's not a good fit and direct them to your preferred laser shop with a "tell them dsj sent you." message. They probably only added the chamfer because they assume there will be a burr.
I run a twin spindle QuickMill HD2 with two of those, one for each spindle. We've got them set to 1500 psi max. They are about 12 years old now and have never given any issues.
A temporary regulated max pressure can be set with an M code. We also installed a manual override knob on the machine...
Those are nice machines. I've used the starrett version of the same machine quite regularly. The optical probe makes it far more handy than a regular old school comparator.
You might be able to update to newer style software with touchscreen, the basic hardware is all the same. With the right...
