    Mechanical jacks are handy

My simplex does that, provided you have your tongue and mouth pointing into the direction to the wind. Its rather impressive if you get it right. The up / down ratchet lever has to be down, theres this other thumb switch lever gizmo, then you have to crack the Da Vinci code of where the main...

    VDI-40 alignment

On a Mori. Its a back working execise. Get the turret where it should be, them you can rotate what is esentially a right angle gear box that is the live tool drive with in the clearance of the bolt hole patten. None of it is dowelled. I've always admirred clasic machines such as Boehringer...

    VDI-40 alignment

To the point, I've had to develop more gizmo's for turrets than spindles past 10 years. I have one I engineerd for the tool drive on Mori NL series lathes. Its this 7 deg tapered tang thing that goes down and engages the live tool drive. You can clock it up using the X axis. All precission...

    VDI-40 alignment

Only because I luv you like a brother. I'll take your word for it. Message still shouldn't be lost. Lots of science internal of those turrets. Dont leave them open for long. I'd rather repair a main spindle than some of those turrets. As always. Regards Pkil.

    VDI-40 alignment

.https://machinistboard.com/index.php?attachments/image0-8-jpeg.3513/ I have a problem with this pitctue. There is no plug in this gaping hole. I've dabbled with those gear meshes. You dont want to know how costly it is, once those interenals chew up. Best to treat it like Mummas, best bits...

    VDI-40 alignment

Those two tools .were they, tool 6 and tool 11? Notable stick out differece off the turret drum. I'm going to say 50mm being metric. Typical turret rotation error, If you wern't 11.000 miles away, I'd come fix it for you. of which it a 90 mimute job. 45 minutes are pulling bsck the Z axis...

    VDI-40 alignment

I'd be checking the true alingment of the turret first. Pull a tool, and clock the mounting face in the Z direction. It's a folly to be checking anything over the lands of a U-drill. That's what I think you are seeing when you measure 0.1" per 5", over a drill. That 2.5mm over 125mm in Heathen...

    Mechanical jacks are handy

I think its fitting John. A jack from about the year you were born. (Just kidding). Yours is a number 2A. Mines an 86. Yours would have to be amousgst the earliest rattle / pawl handles. Its probably worth money to some collector.

    Mechanical jacks are handy

I have I think its an 86A. I thinks its rated 5 tonne / 11 000 lbs. I googled the specs on it once. You get 5 tonne gorrilla gramming 200 pounds off the end of a 3 foot handle. I've knocked myself into shape since covid, just by eating better. I'm just under that 200 lb's. I think I'm only...

    When you don’t have a horizontal 😧.

But where would be the joy be in that? Since Harbour Freight, every second home garage has one of those.? (Or so I'm guessing). My Urban planning knowledge of the US, equates to what I learnt about of Hill Valley from Back to the Future. You can get up every morning, slap your self on the chest...

    When you don’t have a horizontal 😧.

Monday morning, 6am, I'm driving South East, down a freeway, Hearing about this factory that has been over run by protesters. All fucking 8 of them that has climbed onto the roof. Wasn't going there, but wish I was. As it turns out I know a little bit about pick axe handles, and fire hoses being...

    When you don’t have a horizontal 😧.

Its Sunday night here. I'm going to take licence and tell a yarn. One of my mentors, been dead for 15 years. When he first started out, he'd take on all and any work. Some of which was government, up to and including jig boring type work. He used to tell me how he got away with it, by not moving...

    When you don’t have a horizontal 😧.

Do you ever stop and consider just how universal that Bridgeport format is. There's a reason its copied the world over, and you can buy a new version today, what is it 80 -100 years latter. Its the one machine that's a thorn in the CNC v Manual age old argument. Sooner or latter there's that one...

    Dying Upper Spindle Bearing

Interesting fact about the Dm or speed value. in regards to lubrication and grease. American sites only use the bore code as a reference value. They pay no regard to the bearing section, be it 70xx, 72xx, or 79xx. xx being the bearing bore code. Multiple that be 5mm, and you have your bore...

    Dying Upper Spindle Bearing

Previously to that they had "The Real Leigh" in metrology. According to him he had every kind of metrology, up to and including tri-moss gages. Finger prints on a gauge / Jo block, he was your man, I read his obituary. He had a Bridgeport clone in his garage. Prick was a fraud. Google head.
