    12" dia pipe center.

My weiler manual says the tailstock is a Mk. 6. That's just the European way of writing MT?

Found the last machine for a good while

I would have taken an M5 as well but the Weiler is a solid machine and about the same as the M5, but maybe not in the weight. it was only 13k. I was surprised too, but it made it a lot easier for us to handle without involving a rigger. swing over bed is 28” and 120” between centers. people...

Found the last machine for a good while

no it’s cnc, but can be used manually or conversationally (I think, I don’t know the 805 at all) The handwheels spin encoders. This is the setup I wanted, not slant bed. Not that slant bed wouldn’t have been better for chip control, but most of the work done on this will be shaft work. And not...

Found the last machine for a good while

We’ve had 4 cnc machines on our must have list for a while and finically found the last one. It’s a large horizontal lathe. Checks all the boxes: -large, heavy, well made. -purpose built for CNC -undesirable by others, not working, for parts(only because of age or controller obsolescence)...

Face mill cuts one direction but not the other

And that was more or less the goal. We are the customer and I've got some pretty low standards.

Face mill cuts one direction but not the other

True. This might be more like 3 vises but I get your point. But actually... in that scenario I would have way under estimated its movement apparently. I would have thought, "cutting it flat is possible! You just have to cut it in its relaxed position, sharp edges, and light finish pass." Ive...

Face mill cuts one direction but not the other

Well idk what the root cause is. The machine is straight, best I can tell. I can’t get “any” movement with a 6’ crow bar. Checked table slop, rotation, head, etc Sharp inserts made a big difference. But something is still moving a lot. I think it’s the slats but I just wouldn’t have expected...

Face mill cuts one direction but not the other

A36 steel. I was out looking at a job all day today. 11hrs in the car I’m beat. Let me get on this tomorrow with some fresh inserts and indicator and see what I can see. thanks for the ideas on possible causes

Face mill cuts one direction but not the other

I have a 4x8 table top we are facing. Inserts are a bit dull, just roughing it flat. Cutting in the X+ direction, I’m removing material and all good, but cutter acts like it’s lifting after about midway. Then moving in the X- direction it cuts that side and acts like it’s lifting on the far...

    Help deciding on EDM

My buddy started his machine shop when it was just him with a machine a lot like that. No experience but he researched the Hansvelt manuals and made his first real good money. We had a bit of an edm desert. I’ll never forget one time him remarking that he made “doctors pay” that day.

Taper pipe plugs for expanding fixtures?

When I did it I made sure to tap NPS threads. NPS threads with the tapered plug probably gave me more spread.

    Fanuc alarm 387

Are there any similar setups on the other axis that you could swap around to see if the the error follows the axis, cable, encoder/scale, etc?

    T slot cutting

Thanks to all the comments that we were running too fast! We finished the job without changing the cutting strategy, just the S/F. slowed the spindle down to 230 rpm (60SFM) Ran at 1.8ipm (that’s treating it like a 4 fl cutter because it’s staggered tooth) the manufacturer concurred with that...

    T slot cutting

Then you would be making three passes and get less linear inches per tool. I’m using a down and back pass and it works well. You would get 1/3 less slot length with that strategy
