How to find a hole center on a turning cener machine with C axis

I'm assuming that you have a live-tool mounted in the turret. If that's the case, test-indicator. If that's not the case, (if it has a C-axis, I assume that it has live tools, but if not, whatever...) perhaps a dowel-pin in the hole, and the "probe" a tool-pocket in the turret? Take note of...

Newbould indexer and nice small Bakuer boring head

Not that I saw. I think only one, maybe two. Maybe he'll chime in here soon.

Newbould indexer and nice small Bakuer boring head

I visited a chap once who used one for grinding a chuck-full of carbide inserts to thickness...

    Wandering runout

Are we sure this isn't a case of the jaws being bored with too-large a radius insert, and the part's stock having sharp corners from being saw-cut...? In other words, the part's sharp corner trying to sit against the chuck jaws' corner radius, and therefore, will never sit correctly in the...

Newbould indexer and nice small Bakuer boring head

I still can't fully understand how it works, but I do get the principle, roughly. When I was reading the story, it was clear very early on how well-experienced a craftsman RJ was. He did die-making, mold-making, general machine work, and on & on... It was out of his craft that the indexer was...

Newbould indexer and nice small Bakuer boring head

My understanding was that it was to replace gage-blocks and sin-bars somehow. My favorite part of the story was him demonstrating to Starrett. They were setting random angles to show it's replacing of angle-gage blocks, when he made a silly comment to the then President, who took it like a champ.

Face mill cuts one direction but not the other

A36 doesn't keep a whole lot of stress internally, unlike 1018/cold-rolled steels. Any "stress" coming out of the part, would be from welds pulling on the pieces during welding. Possible, but with any sense, kept to a minimum. The surface-scale being cut in only one direction - and not the...

Face mill cuts one direction but not the other

Time to go over that machine with an indicator(s). First, magnet on the part/table/base, and needle on the quill. Push/pull on the quill, up/down/left/right, a see what movement you get. Next, do the reverse. Magnet on head/quill, needle on the part/table/base. Move left/right. Look for...

Can I TIG weld copper to 6061 aluminum?

Can you post a sketch of the joint to be welded, or rather joined?

Woven, coated fabric way cover material

You could try writing this fellow, (Scott) and ask if he has a source for said material. FYI, he makes back packs for caving out of similar material, which is exceptionally durable, in the harshest of environments. Mention that a Caver/Swaygo customer sent you that way, and that you're using it...

    When you don’t have a horizontal 😧.

Nearby shop has a pair of early 90's Mitsui-Seiki horizontals with an early version of a chain-type pallet pool. Purchased used, but still very nice looking machines. The shop manager really praised them. He said despite their age, they had no problem doing a production hard-milling ops, and...

    When you don’t have a horizontal 😧.

Specifically for like-similar horizontal machines, or as firms as a whole? What is it that you saw, that you felt was superior to Makio's? I had been under the impression that Makino's were the cream of the crop in terms of construction quality, performance, etc... Surpassed only by the...

    When you don’t have a horizontal 😧.

See fellas, I had thought before, and have now confirmed - Horizontal's are like boats. You don't want to own one yourself. But you DO want a friend with one...

For Sale - N.O.S. Seco Inserts...

They are all sold unfortunately. I would not bet on the QuattroMill inserts fitting Sandvik's R245... These Manufacturers are usually pretty intent in milling cutters being, and staying proprietary.

For Sale - N.O.S. Seco Inserts...

So the items that were sold in this thread were all obsolete items that couldn't be returned back into the system, mostly because they were obsolete grades. That's why they were kept around. If you mean why I was Axed from Seco - Well, a rocky relationship with my boss (regional manager,) not...

Looking for an I.D. Grooving Tool

Something like that, as long as you can get enough "cutting depth" for the groove, and provided it'll fit through the 1” thru-hole.
