    Indicator repair

Way back I had a beater Timex watch that would occasionally stop. I would pop the back off, pour in some lighter fluid, slosh it around then pour it out and reassemble. Run for another year. Ed.

What air line lube should I use in my Fadal?

Title says most of it. Got some condensation in the bowl and decided to dump it. Still had some oil from when I got it. The manual says: 6) Fill oiler if needed. (Not applicable to TRM) but does not say the type. Ideas? Thanks, Ed.

Yaskawa Varispeed-616 G5 Spindle Drive. Drive or Motor Problems?

I have a Hitachi lathe that does that every few years. Disconnect then reconnect all the cables. Hitachi had the bright idea to use 50 conductor IDC cables for a lot of the interconnects. Stupid. Ed.

Internal splines on a manual shaper

Doesn't bother for mine. One tool has cut over 100 int splines and still going. Gonna need a touchup pretty soon. Ed.

Internal splines on a manual shaper

If your tool point is far enough in front of the pivot point it simply lifts rather than cutting, I hand feed so as to time the feed to the cut. If you turn the slide so it is horizontal the chips fall away rather than piling up. Ed.

    Any tips for honing?

Reverse impulse is when they give it all its got then they twist it with another joint in the boom. But no one would do that. Oh, wait, loggers. Ed.

    Any tips for honing?

Wall thickness depends on pressure. 1/4" generally will take 2500PSI at that diameter. Do you know if there is much back pressure? Does it get a reverse impulse? Nothing harder on machinery than a logger, oof. Many hydraulics shops can get tube and it can always be ordered in. Scot Industries...

    Any tips for honing?

1.5" wall? I would be boring that for a honed tube insert. Maybe O rings on the ends to finish the seal. Ed.

Thoughts. How does run out affect a bored hole?

I probably should have said "runout at the tool tip". Any time I do HBM work or inplace lineboring it's trial cut and set the tool. Anything else will bite you. Your mention of feeding with the spindle is spot on, mine will cut smaller as I feed out. Feed the table and it cuts straight. Ed.

Thoughts. How does run out affect a bored hole?

Say if you have a 2" bar with a cutting tool projecting .25" from the side it should cut a 2.5" diameter. If the runout near the tool is .010 then the tool will cut .010 larger than if the bar is perfectly straight. The tool is cutting from the theoretical centerline of the spindle bearings...

Fanuc 3T How do you keep the spindle on with the program paused

If it was me driving I would feed hold in the middle of a G4 dwell but this is hired (inexperienced) help. I don't want to put somebody at risk. Ed.

Fanuc 3T How do you keep the spindle on with the program paused

Ooh rats! Maybe I overlooked something, any suggestions on what to look for? The problem with a dwell is if you get done before timeout you wait, if not then the spindle stops when not finished. Most of the need is that this batch is 1500 pieces and a few seconds each adds up. Oh, and now...
