We got our new VF4ss delivered this morning. They seem to be pushing their "Haas tooling" line pretty hard. Sent us a $100 off coupon and a box of free tools.

Tools included -
4 shell/face mills, all different sizes and insert styles
15 boxes of inserts, steel and aluminum grades

Once we get around to trying I'll try to remember to follow up. I don't know what treatment is on the shell mills, they are like a muted silver. cosmetically they look awesome, hopefully they work as good as they look.

I bought a couple back in December when they had a sale, $99 got you the shell mill body, a CAT 40 holder, and a ten pack of inserts. They seem pretty nice.

At that price (and just adding them with new machines) they seem to be trying to gain market share, but I'm not too good to accept free tools...

The only mill tooling I buy is for a manual mill, end mills and slitting saws. To me those prices look pretty low compared to what I pay for lathe insert tooling as they are more complicated.

I just ordered holders for the shell mills. Will definitely try the alum specific inserts...
A quick update. Haass did include the face/shell mill holders and pull studs. Unfortunately, they were packed in a seperate box NOT labeled and was overlooked until the ones I ordered had already arrived.
