Depending on what happens after swapping back will determine next steps. It’s a serial spindle drive with optical fiber interface to the Fanuc I/O Link copper interface. That may make troubleshooting a bit harder.

Usually the external encoder won't keep the spindle from running. First thing to do will be to return to the original I/O board.
