    Drilling .055 in 304ss

Make sure your spot drill is sharp. I had similar problems with small drills in 304, and it seemed a dull spot drill was work hardening the part. New spot drill, problem solved. And I've also met some ornery 304, even in bar. I could drill it, but taps were getting crushed.

Not Haas bashing, but...I want to know......

Part of the increase is going to be the machine not waiting for an operator to unload/load parts, the other big jump will likely be lights out running (load up the pallets and let them run over night and all weekend). If you only run one shift that could triple the one spindles productivity.

Not Haas bashing, but...I want to know......

For first time machine buyers I think the combination of online pricing and boatloads of video tutorials has a lot to do with it. And then if they need another machine they stick with what they know. There's probably some distributor related reason other MTBs don't provide online prices...

What insert to turn internal cone with radius?

That would explain why I couldn't find any. But it's all good, I'd rather be told that now than make a whole bunch and find out there was a smarter way... Thanks everybody for the help.

What insert to turn internal cone with radius?

Thanks for the suggestions. I do use end mills as boring bars, but for some reason thought that was generally frowned on. Or some of you are just as redneck as I am... I do like those Micro100 bars, just hate killing them on harder materials. We're only talking about a couple hundred at most...

What insert to turn internal cone with radius?

What boring bar/inset would you guys use to cut this internal profile? I ground a HSS bit to make a couple of these, but now need to make more and using HSS in 4140 prehard isn't very appealing. Dimensions in inches if it isn't obvious.

    Setting Renishaw probe diameter

Thanks for the offer, PM with email sent. I talked to the Yamazen office and they sent over a bunch of programs, should be able to talk to a tech today or tomorrow. It is Renishaw probe, and is a machine from Comatose. He was using the graphical UI, it didn't seem to have any other macros...

    Setting Renishaw probe diameter

100% agree on the machine I bought from them, but this one didn't so I'm trying to temper the bugging. I hope to buy more from them in the future, but who knows when that will be. Yamazen just sent me all these probe routines that I'm trying to implement, and they helped me set up air blast a...

    Setting Renishaw probe diameter

Yep. My blissful ignorance of Macro programming had to end sooner or later, guess today is the day.

    Setting Renishaw probe diameter

Ok, so I just have to run the right program without smashing anything along the way....

    Setting Renishaw probe diameter

That's what I'm looking for now. There's a GUI probe setting routine, but I'm not convinced it's setting the same variables as these macros from Yamazen are running off of. Haas is a lot better at pushing out info on that type of thing.

    Setting Renishaw probe diameter

Dumb question- anyone know how to set the probe tip diameter on a Brother C-00 control? It's got to be buried in a macro variable somewhere, but not sure where exactly. I'd ask Yamazen directly, but I bought this machine used; the one bought new doesn't have a probe, and I've already bugged...

    Bar puller suggestions

We have a set of Dunham cup type bar pullers, they came with a used lathe and work well, but they're kind of expensive for what they are. https://www.dunhamtool.com/bar-pullers/bar-pull-kits I've also made pullers out of Delrin, boring them a bit under as noted in a previous post and slitting...

    Helical Flute Chamfer Mills

I used those same Maritool chamfer tools for a while, but find I get as good of results with a drill/mill (four flute though, none of that two flute nonsense...). Coating makes a big difference in 304.

Fusion 360 Manufacturing Extension- Worth it or move on?

David, it seems like Solidworks with SolidCAM has a similar function, and is integrated CAD/CAM. I'm getting a demo next week and will know more then. I do wish everyone would do the Haas/Autodesk model of online pricing to give you a starting point.

What do you use for CAD? Does Mastercam have a good drafting package?

Fusion 360 Manufacturing Extension- Worth it or move on?

Thanks, that's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. What are you using for CAD, or are you working off customer supplied models? I should have mentioned that, CAD is at least as important if not more so for us, since I'm designing everything we make. Edit to add- Can you share ball...

Fusion 360 Manufacturing Extension- Worth it or move on?

BLUF: Question #1- Is the Manufacturing Extension worth $1,200/yr? Question #2- Have any of you "graduated" from Fusion to a "real" CAD/CAM and been amazed by all the great things they've been missing out on? Background: I've been using Fusion 360 for about five years, and don't...
