    Is this Puma lathe decent?

Had a friend stop by yesterday and asked if the Puma was running yet... I said you know since you're here MDI some stuff in for me while I watch the spindle drive in the back. So he puts in S500 M3 and the display on the drive rapidly goes 0001, 0002, 0003, 0004 then goes back to 0000, but...

    D1-11 Camlock reducer....

I'm zoned agricultural AF-20. The next town expansion will put me inside city limits then it will get harder to build whatever I want as I will answer to 2 planning commissions. I don't think it would effect my business any. Everyone around me runs some kind of business from thier home.

    D1-11 Camlock reducer....

How much of an issue is it to expand the shop where you're at? I feel like I got it pretty good here. Nobody really cares what you build as long as it looks halfway decent and you pay the taxes on it.

    D1-11 Camlock reducer....

What other machines do the D1-8 chucks belong to if the D1-11 lathe is the only lathe in your shop? Mud's solution seems like it'd work pretty good if you had no need to mount those chucks on other machines, but you say you do need to mount them to D1-8 machines?

    D1-11 Camlock reducer....

It would bother me to consider putting a bunch of time into making a chuck adapter like that just to look back in 20 years and realize I only used it 3 times. Friend of mine retired about 25 years ago, handing off his shop to his daughter and son in law. He kept an area in the shop for himself...

    D1-11 Camlock reducer....

Friend of mine had a 60" x 40' engine lathe. The chuck was integral so it lived with a 24" chuck clamped in the 60" chuck. I think it had around a 400 RPM top speed so it wasn't really a problem.

    Fanuc 0i-MC - adding a 4th

Makes sense to me. You've talked about wanting to get an older HMC in the past. If you were able to get one with a full 4th would it suit the kind of work you do better than a VMC?

    Fanuc 0i-MC - adding a 4th

Not questioning your motives, just genuinely curious- What do you need a fully integrated 4th for that an independent 4th w/control box integrated with m-codes can't do? I get there's a lot it cannot do that the integrated can. I'll admit I haven't set up a 4th on a vmc since I got my HMC, but...

    Looking at used machines?

I would love a vertical lathe that size, but with a 16" chuck. The small footprint looks amazing.

    Is this Puma lathe decent?

Good point! I didn't think about the I/O board swap relating to spindle issue.

    Is this Puma lathe decent?

Huge shout out to Kevin for coming down to troubleshoot this old thing with me last weekend. Definitely a very weird issue with this machine. very intermittently we got a 920 alarm (like one in 20+ power cycles) on the screen. The Puma uses Fanuc input and output modules. Kevin noticed the I/O...

Anyone with a Fanuc 0C look at something for me?

Hardinge really shoved the control in a shit place on this thing. Hard to get a good picture, sorry. I have started calling it the SB42 instead of SP42. I feel Shit Box is more suiting than Super Precision.

    Mastercam post editing

"Mpmaster for X2 MR2 - the exact same post as the X2 post above except the coolant codes are controlled by the post rather than the Machine Definition" This is what it says on Mastercam's site. My Mastercam X2 is above MR2 Iirc, though not sure where to look to find out. I remember having to...

    Mastercam post editing

My favorite things about Mastercam X2 are how free it was to me, How I've been using it since it was new so I know it OK enough and when I can't figure something out there is a decent knowledgebase out there and the answers are written on forums, not hidden amongst 50,000 catchy titled videos on...

I was able to use Microsoft code viewer to open and edit the MPMASTER.PST file. I made the changes, saved them to a new file name and couldn't get it to work. I was thinking maybe the control definitions file and the .PST file need to have the same name so I tried again, just saved it as the...
