I ran some parts in 304 stainless for a customer. The print had a mil spec for QQ-S-763-D compliant material. The job was a bit of a PITA, but got through it ok and shipped them out. The customer called me today asking for material certs showing DFARS complIance. I called my material supplier about it, but they were unable to produce the documentation for DFARS. The MTR shows that it is QQ-S-763 material. My question now is: Is QQ-S-763 material DFARS compliant? My material supplier/salesperson would rather ship me more material at 2x the cost of the first batch. I would rather not have to argue with the customer over who gets to eat the $8k and have the added headache of running the job twice.

Did your customer purchase order state DAFRS compliant material?
My take ref QQ-S-763-D being "automatically compliant" is probably not.
Reading the blurb it's the source of the materials that is of importance.
Depending what the job is for, there are allowable exceptions:-

So, the end user’s p.o. apparently stated DFARS compliant material. My customer subbed the job to me and missed the note on the original p.o. . I went by my customers p.o. and the specifications detailed on the print. I’m hoping to be able to resolve this without having to re-run the job.

So you're in the clear ref "blame".
Hopefully your Customer pays you for the job either way.

Yes, technically it isn't my error. But in the interest of good customer relations, I am trying to find a solution that doesn't require running another batch of parts that I really don't have time to deal with. Maybe I'll sub it out...
