for the last 2+ years we had some issues here and there rigid tapping on the hass.
anywhere from 2-56 to 4-40 in alum. basically it was a hit and miss we would be running a job everything was great then 2-3 holes would allow a no go gage. we do thousands of holes , one job gets 18 holes per parts and 250 parts. had a quick little job I needed to run with a 2-56 sti 1st hole perfect second over sized barely then 3-4 parts good 1 bad then 2 bad. Like WTF. so firday I shut it down and was going to run it on the fadal. and start working on the hass friday night to fix that issue and some other issues. really thought I needed another spindle due to the noise in the spindle which was going on for maybe 3 years.
tore into it friday night saw the encoder belt slapping like 2 sumo wresters on a hot sweaty day.
turned out to be a very loose belt. fix took about 10 mins didnt even have to take covers off just the top fan for the motor 7 bolts. it runs a spring tension mount loosen bolts belt tightens then tighten belts. Ah SIMPLE,
Then I noticed a chunk out of the airline going to the drawbar bar. HOW the Heck did this thing even change tools is beyond me when you look at the pic you will understand.
got that fixed as I had hose here for my fadal which was same size.
so figured I would try it since covers were still on and I was assuming I would need to buy a new belt and encoder as well as pulleys monday am.
went to machine realigned the tool change orient and fired up the spindle sounds good, tool change was super quiet used to be loud like a train whistle but that all started when one of the mac vavles went bad and they had me replace it with a alternative valve. I really thought the valve blew the exhuast hence why it was loud.(that was 3-4 years ago)

spindle went super quiet in all rpms now noise at all WTF even changing the over ride both ways never changed the noise. used to be clunky and had wierd sounds Hmmm.
lets try tapping now as this always was noisy. nope quiet as shit no clunk no thump thump thump. meter stayed right at program speed maybe moved 1 rpm every 30-45 seconds, used to jump around 30-40 rpms constanly.
load meter also never changed.
on my 30th part now and the no go doesnt even start changed the rpms to 1500 still fine, went back to change the put out 4 times faster then threading no change.
Loving life back to loving the machine. I might even start typeing HAAS instead of HASS now ;)
next weekend I'm going to do some more Pm work hope I have the same luck.

Skin effect...the turbulent air aga8nst the tube id created a barrier for the air traveling down the center.

I'm probably full of shit but it sounds good.
That and I'm going to guess whatever rubbed through it was partially plugging the hole. If the velocity is high enough the air will want to continue on it's current path.

nothing rubbed through it that line is out in the open for 8 inches then through a wide slot then another 8 inches of open air.
That being said that was the high side. it drops about 10 inchs from that connector and is a straight run.
also that was the only hard part of the hose, the rest was normal. I am betting it was cracked then blew the chunk out later.
still pretty wild

Well done. :giggle:
One of my Haas mills went through a couple of air lines right quick, 1 time under warranty. I went to the supply house and found some better line, it never went bad after that. Particular machine was new in 2012, looked like they used hobby grade line.
Glad it was easy to fix!!!!
