You made one, didn't you?
In all honesty - it is designed ( and I know it will work** ) but I simply have not had time to make it, yet.

** - based upon the fact that I have made other "non-standard" gear and geometric shape ( hexagons, squares, etc... ) Shaping tools.

The subject is one of the larger torments of mine, for many many years...

I've been flip flopping back and forth between this #7 or a mid 90's Fellows CNC 10-4.

I keep hearing Vancbiker's voice saying "buy the right machine to fit your work" and that damn 10-4 is my dream machine, but it's beyond overkill for my work. It's a big machine with the footprint of a vmc.

I pulled the guides out of the #7 today and they look brand new. There's no wear or even the slightest inkling they have been run. However, the machine came from New Zealand and has a 415v motor. That's going to need replaced no doubt. Along with the controls.

I showed the seller what I can buy a nice CNC 10-4 for and asked him if he thought it makes sense to spend my money on his Fellows or spend it with Boeing on the way more desirable 10-4. We agreed on $2200 loaded for the #7 and all the tooling he has.

I put a deposit and I will be picking it up next week.

I hope I don't regret passing on the 10-4. It would be an undertaking to make room for it. If I'm being honest with myself getting the bigger machine would likely delay getting products to market by months compared to the little 4ft x 4ft footprint #7.

I think you'll want both. I have 3 6As, 2 stay setup for families of similar parts, the 3rd gets all the odd jobs.
A 380V transformer should run the 415V ok, shouldn't it?

I was looking for a 7 to add to my hoard because it would be better at making some small parts that I'm buying now. I think a 7 and a 10-4 would probably be a good pairing.

The current motor is 950RPM 50HZ 415V 1.5HP.

I know a guy with a 1100 RPM 60HZ 230V 3HP motor.

Any reason not to install the larger motor?

Anyone know what this machined area next to the work spindle is about? There's a patch epoxied on the underside to cover the hole. Remnents of a rack cutting attachment?

My first reaction was "Awww, that's cuuuute!"
Second was wow that's a great haul for that price, Garwood scores again.

I like your bomb hoist on the cart. I want to do that, do you have a better photo of it?

Happy to hear it sounds like a deal to you. That makes me feel better lol.

I still need to swap motors, replace all the control wiring. Maybe put a vfd on it?

The internal extension arm is the wrong one, it doesn't fit. So I'll have to make one of those. The crank connecting rod is from a different machine and needs gone through. The guy swears the coolant pump doesn't work so I'll probably retrofit an electric one.

The condition seems really good otherwise, but it's not a turnkey machine.

I was very surprised when he dug out all the change gears. I was only expecting a box with maybe 20 gears. There's a massive stockpile of gears here.

SSHHH! Don't tell my wife I used her Tesla to haul old greasy motors! She's out of town for a few days.

Seriously though, it's beyond retarded you can't buy a single cab BEV work truck.

This Tesla Y weighs 4500 lbs empty and ive scaled it over 6000 lbs loaded. It can give 2 shits about 250 lbs in the trunk, it still only cost about $1.50 in power to drive 3 hours with the AC blasting. It would just be really convenient if the damn thing had a bed instead of a trunk.

If you don't need those hobs you might offer them to Ash gear. I sold a ton of shaper cutters to them back before Ebay existed.
