I also kind of disagree with removing them as a matter of course. We do enough parts with timed/partial threads that they have to be modelled, but also it helps with programming blunt starts in a controlled manner (as in, no intervention at the machine to align them)....
Mold making is another trade where modeled threads are often super handy.

Lott can you show a pic of those vise's on the trunion when you get it all set-up.
When orange came out with them I was going to buy one to see if it would work for me but I didnt cause the job was super hot and I couldnt wait.
DELW, Here she is. It's an ugly as sin welded monstrosity that we knocked together, because I'm not expecting to get everything right on the first attempt. Learning is occurring.

I stand corrected, as I've never had to do any "fancy" threads LoL. And I suppose with enough of a machine (which I don't have yet) it *shouldn't* bog it down. On the plus side about the whole HP thing, I am getting a new machine with a 6gb Quadro card, a newer I7 (think 3.09ghz one?), and hopefully upgrade to the 16gb ram currently running, ...sometime this week! Yay!

edit: sometimes I will download bolt models from McMaster to visually verify I have not screwed up a length or c'bore depth when mating several components, but afterward I would delete them from the file to make it easier to manipulate and reduce size/loading etc.

Thanks for the pic. I like that nothing ugly about it.

Are those self centering vise's? or do they have one solid jaw?

One jaw has serrations, you can adjust it in 1/16 increments. I made that vise holder, and then immediately took it off and made a dedicated mini tombstone for some parts that didn't lend themselves to the Talon Jaws, so I haven't even used the vises yet to give you real feedback. They seem solid though.

cool thats the serration type, I like those. they have alot of possibilities minus the talon grips.

Kinda funny for years and years the serrations have worked on lathe chucks but I never seen them on mill vises until Orange vise came out with them a while back.

keep us posted when you start using them and how you like them.
