Hardinge?
Last I bought from Hardinge they shipped a collet and bushing set, smaller than 5c's in two separate boxes and charged me $45 for UPS ground for a 300 mile trip. I was shocked when I looked at the shipping charge.

email orders@hardinge.com and tell them you'd like a set of 5c collets (or whatever sizes you need) but you'd like them to have the sizes engraved rather than laser marked. They'll do it. They've made me all SORTS of oddball stuff over the years, and the upcharge for "specials" on things that aren't really special is negligible. The only downside is it usually takes awhile, even if it's a simple modification, because it goes through the specials department instead of regular production.

For swiss machines we always got collets from Southwick & Meister. Good stuff.

They show 5C on their website. No idea if engraved or etched though.

I called them and a nice young lady told me they engrave them with a diamond tipped tool and she will send me some pics later.
Here is a pic from ebay of another style of their collets, 5c she says are marked on the face. Good tip, thanks

Here's a pretty new 3J from Hardinge. The burn is pretty significant, I can catch a fingernail on it and can feel it with a fingertip. If you click the photo you can blow it up. This is for sale BTW

I agree. Just for shits and giggles I just burnt a collet and then took some scotchbrite to it. It mostly took the factory marking off but the one I burnt you can still see and catch your nail on.

Moral of the story, their or different depths of laser engraving.

Here is one I bought a few months ago and one I bought 35 years ago, can you spot the new one, it made about 500 4140 screws in a barfeed job during which there was a birdnest on the first part as my feed was slow and all the writing left. The old one has thousands of hours doing the same type of work. I find that I am a bit miffed at Hardinge just now.
No blizzard outside, just one between the ears but here are 200 elk trying to hop the fence and cross the highway in North Fork. oops

Looks like it’s now an “emergency collet”. Just bore to whatever size you need, then use a sharpie to re-mark it

Last I checked S&M was making the Swiss collets I use to order and quoted 5-6 week lead time, so I started getting them from Hardinge.

I am not in a big rush, I would just like a nice set in good shape, easy to grab, I have a bunch that almost make 2 sets but many are banged up from 35 years, 12 people and quite a few jobs that they weren't always the right thing but rather the thing we had. I have at least 10 places I use them
